CELIA'S POEMS
No 350
February 28
Last year
we went out shopping,
Before the
world went mad,
You didn’t
appreciate the freedom,
It was just
something that you had.
One of our
calls was at Sainsburys,
At the door
where we walked in,
Was a young
woman with a stall set up,
Offering
orange juice with no additives in.
She said it
was just fresh orange juice,
Nothing had
been added,
We tried
some in a paper cup,
Then put it
in the bin provided.
Her speech
went on for ages,
How it was
really pure,
I stood as
much as I could take,
Couldn’t
listen any more.
I read one
of the cartons,
And read
the sell by date,
It lasted
up to 12 months,
My views I
had to state.
I said if I
squeezed an orange,
And left it
a day or two,
I wouldn’t
want to drink it,
And I’m
sure neither would you.
So how come
this you’re selling,
Is alright
until next year,
You’re
telling all these people,
No
additives are in here.
She
couldn’t find an answer,
She was
embarrassed I’ve got to say,
When we had
done our shopping,
The stand
had been put away.
What do
they put in things today,
When I put
my spread together,
It will
have all been freshly made,
But Mr
Kipling’s lasts forever.
