CELIA'S POEMS
No 359
March 09
My first husband used to
play for the county,
Crown green bowling was
his joy,
He was a very good player,
Had started as a boy.
One Sunday we set off to a
County match,
I can’t remember where it
was,
But it was quite a long
way,
My sons friend was driving
us.
One of the tyres had a
blow out,
The car went out of
control,
My husband tried to help
the lad,
The steering wheel to
hold.
Just as we were near the
barrier,
The lad started to panic,
He pulled the steering
wheel away from Jack,
It really was traumatic.
My daughter was in the
back with me,
I had no shoes on and was
knitting,
The car started to turn
over,
My teeth I started
gritting.
We rolled over a few
times,
The windows all smashed
out,
Was everybody living,
I really had my doubts.
Slowly but surely we all
came to,
We were shaken and tried
to get out,
Some of the other team
members,
Had passed and called an
ambulance out.
We of course were all
shook up,
When we all at last got
freed
We all seemed to be OK,
My husbands head started
to bleed.
We were taken to Rochdale
hospital,
No car to get us home,
It was a total write off,
I was glad to see it gone.
My husband needed lots of
stitches,
His head was in a mess,
But we had all survived
this,
Someone above I had to
bless.
That’s why I just hate
motorways,
And I don’t want to drive,
Seeing the car being taken
away,
Couldn’t believe we got
out alive.
